Fall is my favorite time of year. But because it’s the start of the school year, it usually flies by in the flurry of schoolwork, lessons, and appointments, and I feel as if we’ve missed it. So this fall, we’re making a point to enjoy the season. Here are some ideas for fall activities to help your family enjoy the season too.
Pick Pumpkins. ‘Tis the season! Look for local farms that offer pumpkins for the picking!
Carve a pumpkin – but use the insides as well! Roast the pumpkin seeds and make homemade pumpkin pie from the meat.
Go through a corn maze. Find out if there’s a maze in your area, take the kids, and start wandering!
Visit an orchard. If you live in a climate where apple trees grow, visit an orchard and pick some together.
Make apple pie… and caramel apples, and apple fritters, and apple sauce. You don’t have to live in apple country to cook these up!
Play in the leaves. Give each person a rake to make the pile, then everyone jump in!
Hike through the woods. Nothing says fall like the changing leaves! Take a walk along a wooded path together and enjoy!
Gather fall leaves. As you walk through the woods, bring along a bag to gather the beautiful leaves you find. Take them home and use them to make a craft together.
Gather pine cones. There are so many crafts you can do with pine cones, too! Add them to your bag as you walk along.
Make a campfire. On a chilly evening, build a fire, roast some marshmallows, and make some s’mores.
Attend festivals. There are lots of fall festivals in our area, which include arts and crafts, music, and good food.
Go to the fair. Check in your own city as well as in neighboring towns for fair dates and enjoy the rides!
What does your family like to do in the fall?
