We went to the library the other day to pick up some books we had reserved. As we were standing in line to check out, my son commented how great it would be if we could just borrow books as ebooks, to avoid the drive and the lines at the library. So I suggested he look it up maybe there was something out there- he did and found there is!
We have all probably read books on ereaders, like the Kindle, Nook, and iBooks. Those offer electronic books for a price and sometimes free. However to get a library book in print or audio a visit to the library was required. Some libraries offer a way to download these books from their sites but it’s not consistent or friendly.
Enter OverDrive Media Console. It is the largest provider of downloadable library content. Find out if your library subscribes to them – most do or are working on it.
OverDrive has a free app for tablets and smart phones to be e-readers. It’s simple and pretty user friendly. Like other ereaders, it has a progress bar, bookmark, and easy downloading.
The app guides you. Once you are in, you can see the list of books available for download. You check out and download right from your device.
You can also download audio books. This is a favorite of ours. Though the audio book selection is smaller, it is improving daily. Playback is simple with the basic controls.
