Successful Homeschooling

Every once in a while I come across a helpful homeschooling site, and Successful-Homeschooling.com is one of those sites. Full of information and easy to navigate, this site offers something for both the new and veteran homeschooler.

If you are still considering whether or not homeschooling is the best choice for your family, you can follow the links to discussions on the advantages and disadvantages of homeschooling. A summary of the different methods of homeschooling is also provided.

Once you’re ready to begin (or you’re already in the trenches), you can search the “Resources” links for more information. There you’ll find curriculum and product recommendations and reviews. The author of the site also takes you step by step through the process of choosing the right curriculum for your family, helping you first to decide your family’s goals in homeschooling, then thinking through which type of curriculum would work best for you.

If you have a younger child, you can take advantage of the pre-school and kindergarten activity pages on the site. You’ll find ideas for teaching your little ones the alphabet and letter sounds, as well as ideas for teaching math, science, and art. Complete curriculum suggestions are also provided.

As the parent of an eighth grader, I’ve also found the high school section extremely helpful. The thought of having a child in high school and teaching him at home sometimes makes me a little nervous; I want to be sure he takes the classes he needs not only to graduate, but also to get into a good college or university. This site offers help and encouragement in the areas of developing a plan for high school, preparing transcripts, and issuing diplomas.

The “Tips and Ideas” section contains even more helpful information, including ideas for organizing and scheduling your homeschooling day, record keeping, and finding support groups. Overall, this homeschooling site earns an A+ from me!
